The First 7-inch portable video player in the World
2004.6

MobiNote Technology Corp. has formally announced the world's first 7-inch portable video player, the DVX-POD 7010, at Computex 2004. Michael Chiang, CEO and chairman of MobiNote, has stated that building on the success of the MP3 player, the portable video entertainment device will become the next hot consumer electronic product. Leading the industry in the development and application of MPEG-4 compression techniques, MobiNote has attracted attention from international companies and distributors in the United States and Europe with the DVX-POD 7010.

According to Michael Chiang, mainstream products, including portable video entertainment devices, have not developed a formal standard product. This is principally because they are restricted by the relatively undeveloped MPEG-4 compression technique. For example, Sony, who has developed products by itself, or hardware companies led by Microsoft, including Creative and Samsung, and Taiwanese companies such as Ta-tung and MSI, have only developed 2.5- to 3.5-inch LCD products in their first pilot developments. These smaller screens can only support CIF image quality (352x288) or QVGA image quality (320x240). The image quality is not good enough, and the film is not smooth enough for playback.

Chiang states that by taking an industry lead in the development and application of MPEG-4 compression technology, MobiNote Technology Corp. has launched the 7-inch portable video entertainment DVX-POD 7010 as its first product, after adopting an LTPS high-resolution digital wide-screen (16:9) panel. MobiNote's advanced MPEG-4 compression technology can smoothly play MPEG-4 video and automatically optimize video displays of different sizes. The DVX-POD 7010 can support D1-level quality (720x480), which corresponds to DVD films. In addition, the DVX-POD 7010 combines the functions of an MP3 Player, a digital recorder and a personal digital photo album, and can also serve as a personal hard drive with a capacity equivalent to 80 256MB Flash USB Pen Drives. All of your personal portable video entertainment needs can be met at one time.

Also noteworthy is that the DVX-POD 7010 has a PVR digital recording function. Chiang points out that the DVX-POD 7010 can record TV programs directly from the TV and can convert films from a DVD player into the MPEG-4 format, enabling the user to easily record film content to the DVX-POD 7010 without the use of a PC. Chiang also mentions that the user-friendly interface makes the PVR recording function easy-to-use, and helps deliver an extremely useful consumer electronic product.

Chiang further states that in addition to providing the user with a higher-quality audio-visual experience, the 7-inch portable video entertainment device can also make inroads into the car stereo audio-visual market as well as the portable DVD player market. The built-in 20GB HDD, through the MPEG-4 compression technology, can store about 30 MPEG-4 films, 5,000 files of MP3 music, or 20,000 pictures (with support of JPEG/GIF/BMP picture formats). Compared to portable DVD players, the DVX-POD 7010 is lighter, thinner and smaller, and is without a DVD loader. Compared to current car stereo audio-visual systems, the DVX-POD 7010 is more competitive in terms of portability, film quality and price.

The DVX-POD 7010 sports a simple North European design and style. All of the operating buttons are designed on the side of the player, enabling the flat surface of the 16:9 digital wide-screen to remain complete. The front of the player is coated with a white varnish to emphasize the modern sense of brightness and simplicity. The back of the player adopts a misty-surface design with skid-proof rubber pads to enhance shockproof stability when the DVX-POD 7010 is held in the hand. On the operating design, a silver-gray misty-surface material is selected to add to the simple, low-profile style of the player. With the shape of the player designed to balance the curves and smoothness of the DVX-POD 7010, not only is the physical weight of the player reduced, but the portability of the player is also enhanced.

The DVX-POD 7010 has a "one-click" user-friendly human interface button which eliminates the difficulties of learning and using the device. Its operating display is designed with familiar looking icons. Operation is a breeze by just rolling and clicking the unique "Fly-Roll" on the side of the device.

Just bring along your DVX-POD7010 and your entertainment world goes with you!
